Definition – What does Long Term Trader mean?

A long term trader is a forex trader who holds a position in a currency pair for weeks or months. Long term traders are at the opposite end of the spectrum from short term traders who keep positions for less than a day. Long term traders usually pay more attention to the fundamental drivers of a currency pair.

ForexTerms explains Long Term Trader

As with all time frame distinctions, identifying a specific trader as long or short term can be tricky. The general perception is that a long trader is an individual whose average trade is held open more than a week. The middle ground between a day and a week is the territory of the swing traders who are comfortable long or short depending on the market conditions. While the longer time frame usually suggest that a long-term trader will pay more attention to fundamental analysis, there are many long-term traders using technical analysis to some degree.
